REDLANDS, Calif. (Dec 20, 2014) Steam rises from Southern California Edison’s Mountainview Generating Station in the early morning. Located 80 miles east of Los Angeles and built by Bechtel Power Corp., the 1,054-megawatt power plant uses natural gas to create enough electricity for 685,000 homes. According to a 2013 study released by Environment California Research and Policy Center, the plant is the highest polluting power plant in the state, emitting 1.85 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
