Environmental Portrait: A Guy With A Car In A Garage

Sometimes the little guy wins.

Colleague Troy Lyman noticed a high incidence of passenger-seat air bag failures on General Motors’ Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice vehicles. He crunched the numbers, submitted the information to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and for his trouble will get a recall ordered on the matter.

The story caught the attention of Automotive News, who on Lyman’s recommendation, hired me to make some environmental portraits of him for their story.

Four Nikon speedlights, the main attached to a Lumiquest soft box and all triggered with RadioPoppers, were used to light the scene, shot on a Nikon D700 with a 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens.

You can read Troy’s story here.
