Rendezvous Back To Route 66: Cars Shine At Annual Event

I ventured out yesterday to the 4th annual Rendezvous Back To The Route 66 car show in downtown San Bernardino. Photo skills diminish is not exercised regularly, and so I needed to get out and “Practice, practice practice,” inspired by mentor David Tejada. Using Canon cameras at work and Nikons at home, I sometimes struggle to shift gears between systems.

A far bigger event than last year, the event included an expanded cruise route and a larger area for display of classic and custom cars across downtown San Bernardino. The event takes over where the former Route 66 Rendezvous left off after losing its funding from the City of San Bernardino.

I’ve encountered Ray Rodriguez and his beautiful 1957 Chevy Belair, seen above and below, at similar events, and always admired the remarkable amount of chrome under the hood. Ray’s motto: “If it doesn’t move, chrome it.”

The result of San Bernardino area Chamber of Commerce CEO Judi Penman’s hard work, the annual car show continues to grow. As San Bernardino struggles to emerge from bankruptcy, it’s great to see some vitality return to downtown San Bernardino.
