Lights Out: Sears & Walmart Portrait Studios Close

CPI Corp., operator of portrait studios inside Sears and WalMart stores across the country, has abruptly ceased operations, according to Wall Street Journal Online. Perhaps a victim of the growth and ease of digital photography, COPI’s workflow included the outdated method of processing prints at a central lab then having customers return weeks later to pick them up. This likely became harder for customers to accept in today’s iPhone/Instagram world, where customers likely expect prints be available immediately following their session, the modus operandi for the competing chain Picture People.
