HINKLEY, Calif. (Dec. 24, 2010) An abandoned home and mailboxes sit beside Hwy. 58 as it passes through Hinkley. The Mojave Desert community, made famous by the movie, “Erin Brockovich,” has been hit with a toxic sequel. Hexavalent chromium, also known as chromium-6, has been found in the groundwater far beyond the original plume PG&E caused, was ordered to clean up and contain following a class-action lawsuit by residents of the farming community almost 20 years ago. Residents are again contemplating legal action against the utility. (Photo by Greg Vojtko)
