With the weather turning slightly cooler it was a fine day this past Sunday for a parade. City of Loma Linda held their annual Community Parade and Fair with bands and other participants marching down Anderson Street to Loma Linda Academy for a carnival with booths and games.

The two things that struck me about the event were the community support and the bands. Residents turned out early and lined the shady side of Anderson Street from start to finish. I found one family had brought milk and cereal out to the curb just to assure themselves a front row seat for the show.
The bands were awesome. Moore Middle School performed all decked out in uniforms fit for the Tournament of Roses while Beattie Middle School turned out dressed in jeans, sneakers and polos.
Differences in appearances aside both schools performed admirably. It brought back memories of my one and only marching band experience in junior high. It was the annual Christmas parade through town. We dressed in white sneakers, black denim jeans and royal blue windbreakers.
We were after the horses.
Even with clowns picking up what they could as they followed the horses they didn’t get everything. I managed to march the length of the parade, like walking through a mine field, without stepping in any of the smelly stuff only to get to the end of the line and be treated to jelly-filled donuts.
I promptly dropped one on top of my nearly-new clean white sneakers!
